(e)Book – Love and friendship

  (e) Book –  Love and friendship Full title :  Love and friendship and other early works Author : Jane Austen Score : /10 Year : 1790 (original) ; 2012 (this edition) Publisher : Duke Classics   ISBN  978-1-62012-155-9  // 9781620121559  (ebook)  Pages :  Language: English Jane Austen is best known for her 6 novels, which all have been adapted into tv movies - but after having read Virginia Woolf's short fiction in chronological order, I decided to apply the same for Austen's publications, to better appreciate her growth and evolution in narrative style. So, before reading her novels which were released from 1811 to 1817, in the following order :  Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma,  Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, I decided to go back to her teenage years, reading Love and Friendships, and other early works.

Movie - Little girl lost

Movie - Little girl lost
Score : 6/10
Year : 1988
Director : Sharon Miller

Country : USA
Language : English
Duration :  1h34

Based on a true story, little girl lost follows the Brady’s fight to adopt a girl they had fostered.

Although nothing in shown, there are discussions regarding physical abuse, as well as inappropriate touching and sexual abuse. This tv movie shouldn’t
therefore be viewed by children, in my opinion.

The director, Sharron Miller, seems to have chosen to make this film with as little music possible, so there isn’t a score, at least no bad or corny 1980’s music ended in there…

Tess Harper & Frederic Forrest played their roles well, and Marie Martin as Tella, the girl they want to adopt did great, quite convincing job, which got some teary moments in this drama.

This might not be the best movie, but it kept me watching till the very end, wanting to know how the story unravels.

  1. I do not think that this kind of film is for me! But this is just personal taste. :)
I do not doubt that this is a good movie, I just think this is not the kind I like to watch :)

  2. It's not easy to watch, but it's not graphic like many others on this topic... I think it's important to be aware the issue exists, still, to this day, but you don't have to watch movies about it if you don't want to :)
