So, before reading her novels which were released from 1811 to 1817, in the following order :  Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma,  Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, I decided to go back to her teenage years, reading Love and Friendships, and other early works.

Based on Robert Inman’s novel by the same name.
July 1944, in a small southern town, three generations of Tibbets and their friends, torn by the war, tragedies and conflicts.
Even though this drama isn’t the best film out there, it still agreeably surprised and entertained me.
Barnard Hughes as grandpa Jake Tibbets, editor and publisher at a local newspaper, is a grumpy yet funny old man. Sada Thompson plays his wife Pastine Tibbets, and together they raise their grandson Lonnie, played by Neil Patrick Harris.
I really liked a certain moment with Pastine and a sword.. I won’t tell you how or why, you’ll have to see that for yourself. Spunky grandma, I have to say.
Some ‘’that guy’’ in the tv-movie, such as Robert Prosky (he seems to have always been old, doesn’t he?) ; Brad Sullivan as Fog Martin (we recall him as Bobby Simon’s friends in NYPD Blue)…
Overall, the score is forgettable, but hey, they didn’t play us horrible 1944’ music.
Direction was ok, acting for a small budget film, ok, too.
