(e)Book – Love and friendship

  (e) Book –  Love and friendship Full title :  Love and friendship and other early works Author : Jane Austen Score : /10 Year : 1790 (original) ; 2012 (this edition) Publisher : Duke Classics   ISBN  978-1-62012-155-9  // 9781620121559  (ebook)  Pages :  Language: English Jane Austen is best known for her 6 novels, which all have been adapted into tv movies - but after having read Virginia Woolf's short fiction in chronological order, I decided to apply the same for Austen's publications, to better appreciate her growth and evolution in narrative style. So, before reading her novels which were released from 1811 to 1817, in the following order :  Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma,  Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, I decided to go back to her teenage years, reading Love and Friendships, and other early works.

Movie – Psycho (1960)

Movie – Psycho
Score : 9.5/10 (read on)
Year : 1960

Director: Alfred Hitchcock
Country : USA
Language : English
Duration: 1h49
Writers : Robert Bloch (novel) ;  Joseph Stefano  (screenplay)

Note : IMDB rates this as '' X '', and in the detailed parental guide tells us it would be a modern ''strong PG13'', after all, this is, a Hitchcock movie with murder and partial nudity, not the material you'd want to see if you are extremely sensitive, or let your underaged kids see... however, if I, a very sensitive man, can watch this, most of you won't have troubles at all.

The movie revolves around A Phoenix secretary who steals $40,000 from her employer's client, and runs away... where ? you probably know, but if you don't, watch and find it out for yourself...

I love the score, the acting, directing, lighting, that if it hadn't been for the taxidermy animals shown now & then, I'd give this feature a 10/10.. well, technically it still does get it, but my appreciation for the movie is 9.5, just because I must reduce a bit from the small parts I dislike about it.

Psycho was our Halloween movie in 2014. We watched it on a bluray with a stunning, crystal clear image as if the movie had been done today, not in 1960, and with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit) sound, after what must have been a very time consuming process to deliver a visual slap in the face, 12 times...

I will let you know more about the bonus material once I get to watch them, till then, I can already say that there is a lovely animated menu to access the various elements on it : the movie, chosen language, sound preferences, subtitles, bonus...
so, if you're a fan of Alfred's movies, thrillers, old movies, I suggest you get this, you won't regret it.

Starring : Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles,  John Gavin, Janet Leigh, Martin Balsam, and others, including Patricia Hitchcock (the director's daughter)
