#threadtrek #monthlytrek 2022 Part 1
In September, when I was still on twitter, I participated in #threadtrek #monthlytrek, making whole threads of some of the prompts. Today, I fulfil the promise of sharing all of the texts I'd posted, altered for the blog's format, editing out unnecessary words, but sometimes expanding on the ideas I had, because twitter's character limits forced me to summarize examples and opinions.
Day 1: Vulcans
Vulcans are introduced in Star Trek's Original series (aka TOS) as logic driven, honor bound, having had a violent past and learned self control. Yet, they do have remnants of ambivalent nature, such as mind meld, which can be seen essentially as a violent act. The use of mind meld is a fascinating one ; either to understand other people, or creatures ; in other cases, to subdue a violent person, or give a certain emotional balance. You'll see more about this at the end of this entry (see day 5).
Their violent roots are still present when they go through pon farr, the biological 7 year itch to mate that Vulcans experience. In TOS Amok Time, a wedding ceremony is challenged, and Spock has to fight the Kal-if-fee, normally to the death. Another fight occurs in Voyager Blood Fever.
In other occasions, they have to be angered to release some kind of alien takeover, a sort of an emotional reboot...
The Vulcan's evolution includes those who didn't follow Surak's teachings of logic and self-discipline, but also Vulcan children bullying Spock, or a murderous Lon Suder who had to unlearn violence, Sakonna in the Maquis and others.. They're definitely a favorite trek race for me.
Day2 : misunderstood creature
